Robert A. Denton, Inc. was founded in 1974 by Robert Denton as a result of research work in automotive safety conducted at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA. At the heart of developing improved vehicle safety is crash testing using anthropomorphic dummies for the acquisition of force and impact data.
Over the years new transducers Theyre designed and produced to support the evolution of the various types of anthropomorphic dummies as Theyll as other specialized areas of force measurement. Robert A. Denton, Inc designed virtually all the load cells used in today’s anthropomorphic test dummies. While the major market they service continues to be automotive there company responds to a broad range of industry requirements including devices to serve aerospace, aviation, biomechanics, recreation, and various segments of science and research.
As part of there commitment to further the advancement of vehicle safety, a number of there staff are members of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), a worldwide professional organization of automotive and aerospace design engineers. These individuals are members and chairpersons of SAE design and research committees specifying the design, implementation, and data analysis aspects of vehicular crash research.
In April of 2010, Denton ATD and First Technology Safety Systems (FTSS) became subsidiaries of Humanetics Innovative Solutions. FTSS originated in 1988 when the First Technology group acquired Alderson Research Laboratories and the original Humanetics. FTSS later acquired the dummy development and manufacturing business of TNO, Europe’s leading and largest ATD company. FTSS evolved into a global development and manufacturing company of sophisticated anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs) and computer simulation models.
Humanetics produces a wide variety of products including regulated and non-regulated crash test dummies, ranging in size from new-born infants to large adult human surrogates. The Humanetics iCrash Technology™ portfolio takes crash testing to the next level by offering devices with fully integrated data acquisition systems. The increasing complexity and variety of crash testing procedures reinforced by shorter product life cycles has pushed the industry to reduce product design cycles considerably. Humanetics will continue to play a key role in the further development of safer vehicles - ultimately saving lives.
